Older DC-DC chargers waste 10-15% of their input as heat. The Orion XS wastes just 1.5% — so more of your alternator's power reaches your battery, and the charger runs cool even at 50A sustained output.

Is 50A too much for my alternator?

The Orion XS lets you limit the charge current via Bluetooth, so you can match it to your alternator's spare capacity. Most modern vans handle 50A comfortably — but if you're unsure, drop the current to 30A or 40A in the app and watch how your batteries respond.

What's the difference between the XS 50A and the Smart 30A?

The XS is the newer generation: 98.5% efficiency vs 87%, higher output, and a more compact case. The Smart 18A and 30A are proven workhorses at a lower price point. Choose XS if you're charging large lithium banks or want maximum efficiency.

Do I need heavier cable for 50A?

Yes — and this kit includes the right one. Runs over 5m get 25mm², which carries 50A continuously without voltage drop; runs under 5m get 16mm², which is up to the job at that length. The cable kit is pre-cut and pre-fused for your specific van.

Will this work with AGM batteries?
