How many flexible panels do I need?
For a fridge plus normal 12V loads, 2 panels (300W) cover summer well. Full-time off-grid with an inverter — 3 or 4. Flexible panels cost slightly more per watt than rigid, so rigid is better value if weight and height aren't concerns.
Do flexible panels get hot?
Yes — mounted flush to a dark roof, they run hotter than rigid panels on brackets. MPPT control recovers most of that loss. In very hot climates, rigid panels with airflow underneath are more efficient; in UK conditions, the difference is minor.
Is the cabling different from a single-panel kit?
Yes — the panels connect in series down a single cable run to the controller, with inline fusing per string. It's all pre-matched to the controller's rating.
Can I mix flexible and rigid panels?
It's not recommended — different electrical characteristics mean the MPPT controller can't track both panels' maximum power points simultaneously. Pick one type for the whole array.
