If your van is pre-2015 (and has a traditional alternator), and you're running AGM or gel leisure batteries, this kit does the job reliably and affordably.

The relay only connects the batteries when the alternator is producing charge (above 13.8V). When you park, it disconnects at 12.8V — so your starter battery never gets drained by your leisure loads.

❓ FAQ

Will this work with my van?

If your van has a standard alternator (most vehicles before 2015, or commercial vehicles without stop-start technology), the VSR kit will work. If your van has a smart alternator (Euro 6 engines from 2015 onwards, usually with stop-start), you need a DC-DC charger instead — the VSR cannot charge from a smart alternator.

Can I use this with lithium batteries?

No. The VSR operates on voltage thresholds that don't suit lithium battery charging profiles. For lithium batteries, use one of the Victron Orion DC-DC charger kits instead — they have proper lithium charge algorithms.

What if I don't know my battery location?

Select the location where your leisure battery will be installed — under the driver or passenger seat, near a wheel arch, or under the bed at the rear. The cable length is calculated for a clean, direct route from the starter battery to that location. If you're unsure, measure the approximate cable run and choose the closest option.

Do I need the fuse box option?

If you're just adding split charging to an existing setup with a fuse box already in place, select 'No Fuse Box'. If you're starting from scratch or want a tidy distribution point for your 12V loads, add the 6-way (SC7) or 12-way (SC6) fuse box.
