Every conventional campervan electrical system starts from the same assumption: an alternator charges a leisure battery while you drive. Split charge is the foundation of the entire playbook.
Electric vans broke that. No conventional alternator, no split charge — and until now, no clear answer. Search any van conversion forum and you'll find the same thread: "how do you fit a leisure battery in an electric van?" Guesswork everywhere, solutions nowhere.
The Kia PV5 answers the question differently. It has a V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) port that outputs electricity directly from its traction battery — a 71.2kWh energy reserve on the Long Range model, more than any leisure battery on the market.
The Rayne PV5 board is built around exactly that.
The board accepts power from three sources. Transfer switches select the active source automatically:
Your traction battery becomes your leisure power supply. Connect the V2L output and the board converts it to clean 12V DC and 240V AC for your conversion. You're drawing from the biggest battery your van already carries.
Connect to site power at a campsite and the board runs exactly like a conventional conversion: powering your system and charging the buffer battery.
Usually a 100Ah lithium — carries the system when V2L isn't running and there's no hook-up. Fridge, lights and devices stay on overnight without touching your driving range, and without leaving the van in camping mode whilst you're out on a hike.

Not with a conventional split charge system — electric vans don't have a traditional alternator to charge from. The PV5 board solves this differently: it draws power from the van's V2L port, with a buffer battery smoothing delivery. No split charge needed.
V2L stands for Vehicle-to-Load. The Kia PV5 can output electricity from its traction battery through a dedicated port. The PV5 board takes that output and distributes it to your 12V and 240V circuits.
The traction battery plus buffer battery covers most use cases. Solar is optional for extending range on long off-grid stays.

Yes — power drawn from the traction battery comes from the same energy you drive on. As a guide, a long weekend of typical leisure use draws roughly 2–3% of the Long Range battery's 71.2kWh capacity.
